Moore Eyes refurbishment
Moore Eyes Refurbishments transformed a dated retail and office building at 119 Bolsover Street, Rockhampton, into a compelling, brand-driven optical retail showroom and professional office precinct. Completed in 2012 for a local optometry practice, the project encompassed extensions and renovations that seamlessly blend the building’s original structure with a contemporary commercial aesthetic. The interior fit-out, inspired by the fluid geometry of the Moore Eyes logo, orchestrates circulation and display zones with the addition of a dynamic gallery walkway. Externally, crisp new cladding, bold signage, refined frameless glazing, and a reinstated side-entry arcade, provide accessible, prime-frontage access to the retail showroom. Passive design strategies—natural cross-ventilation, strategic daylighting, and efficient orientation—are paired with water-recycling measures and LED fixtures to minimize operational costs and environmental impact. Inside, bespoke joinery and a palette of internal finishes contrast with retained masonry, amplifying the optical theme and guiding visitors from façade to frame displays. The adaptive reuse challenge of merging old and new was met through meticulous detailing, ensuring structural continuity and visual harmony. Client collaboration ensured bespoke brand expression. Today, Moore Eyes Refurbishments stands as a landmark on Rockhampton’s inner-city retail strip, elevating the client’s brand presence, enhancing pedestrian activation, and setting a benchmark for context-driven commercial design.
